The Pathophysiology of Walking Impairment
Walking Impairment is One of The Most Physically and Emotionally Disruptive Aspects of MS.1
Nerve conduction loss
- Demyelination can result in conduction failure and multiple sites of axonal degeneration.7-9
- Loss of potassium alters electrical conduction and slows or stops nerve impulses.10-12
Walking impairment
Walking is a complex motor activity. The underlying cause of walking impairment in patients with MS is thought to be areas of demyelination in the CNS and spinal cord.13
